Song To Wake To

Song to Wake toSong to Wake to by J.D. Field
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really, really enjoyed this book. When I was finished, I went right out to the Amazon Kindle store and bought the second (I'm about 16% through it). I think it could have used a bit more editing, but some of that could just be the difference between UK English and American English.

The Little Man

This is Griz. He's not in the pic on my blog. Isn't he adorable? Half Siberian Husky and half Great Pyreaneese. More on him later, just thought he needed to be introduced.

Getting a Kindle

One thing I have said many time I would never do - Buy a Kindle. When they first came out, the refresh rate was horrible and I never thought I could adjust. Amazon (or the publishers) wouldn't let you lend your books like Barnes and Nobel was doing with the nook. Well, it's been a few years since the e-ink technology has become available and they have made some great improvements. I really liked the nook Simple Touch, the refresh rate is amazing. But I didn't want to be stuck with just one e-reader and be trapped into buying books from just one retailer. I can get Google Books, Kindle, and nook books on my Android phone, and that's what I really want in an e-reader. For now, unless you buy a tablet, or hack your Kindle Fire and nook Tablet, you are kind stuck with just one. I'm not ready to spend $500+ on a tablet that I would mainly use as an e-reader. My neice bought the Kindle Touch w/ 3g (she doesn't have access to wi-fi) and I really liked it. I serious thought about getting a Kindle Fire, the $199 price is very attractive and I read you can get to the Android market place and get the nook app. But I still can do anything on my phone I would on the Fire. I went with the Kindle Touch and I think I'm going to be very happy. You woudln't know it, but there are a lot of free books on Amazon that you can download to your Kindle. I think a lot of them are self published, but I think I have found some that sound really good. I won't get it until next week, but I have already "purchased" over 25 free e-books for it. I'm really looking forward to taking it on vacation and not having to lug 3-4 books around. :) More to come on my experience with my new Kindle.

Happy reading. :)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.....

Been quite a while since I've been here, as you can tell if you look at the date of my last post. I tried using WordPress for a while. It's nice, but it doesn't work well with the browser at work (very outdated and I can't upgrade without permission). So here I am again, giving Blogger another try. I don't know how this will work out, I've had a problem finding topics to blog about. Well see how it goes this time around.
